Districts in First Ring/Cuyahoga County and Montgomery County Ohio are invited to participate in this grant project focused on supporting the development of multidisciplinary teams to create safe and respectful learning environments. This can be accomplished, in part, by implementing evidence-based training to build, strengthen and maintain knowledge and skills in behavioral threat assessment and suicide prevention.
Behavioral threat assessment is key to identifying and mitigating school threats, with the Comprehensive School Threat Assessment Guidelines (CSTAG) model providing an effective framework for evaluating risks. This multidisciplinary approach focuses on early intervention, offering students support rather than punishment, to prevent violence and promote a safe environment.
Our Behavioral Case Manager software enhances this process by using CSTAG, the Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale (C-SSRS), and expert-develop processes to help teams gather data, create tailored plans, and document cases. The software's dashboard and real-time collaboration features ensure streamlined management and effective prevention efforts across schools and communities.

Reduce the stigma of mental illness on your campus and improve the effectiveness of student well-being programs. In this online training, you'll receive an in-depth presentation on youth suicide prevention. Learners work independently at their own pace and on their own schedule to complete 7 modules, each one introduced by Dr. Scott Poland, an international expert on youth suicide prevention.
If you have any questions, please reach out to Amanda Nowak (amanda.nowak@escneo.org) or Jeremy Joseph (jeremy.joseph@mcesc.org).
The value of this offer is $2.38/student; however, it comes at no cost to your school/district over the life of the grant, which ends on June 30, 2028.
By participating in the grant, the school/district agrees to complete all offered trainings – CSTAG Level 1, CSTAG Level 2 and Suicide Awareness & Prevention. Following training completion, the school/district agrees, as required by the grant, to use the Behavioral Threat Assessment & Suicide Case Manager software to document all threat assessments conducted. Schools/Districts are also required to share case data, excluding personal identifiable information, at the end of each progress report/semester at minimum.
The CSTAG Level 1 eLearning training will take approximately 3-4 hours to complete. This is a prerequisite for attending the 4-hour CSTAG Level 2 live-virtual workshop. The Suicide Awareness & Prevention eLearning training will take approximately 1-2 hours to complete.
Yes! For districts that have staff who have completed CSTAG training they do not have to retake the training in order to participate in the grant. However, if a district chooses, staff can retake the training as a refresher through the grant. New staff members should be trained through the grant.
